Web Software Engineer

White House Custom Colour (WHCC) in Eagan MN is looking for someone who can write JavaScript, HTML, CSS and more. You will work to engineer for performance across browsers and delight people by making the best software that we can imagine.

A Typical Week:

You'll brainstorm with Product Managers and Designers to conceptualize new features.

You'll learn about new web technologies and discuss the potential solutions to problems.

You’ll collaborate with other engineers and participate in code reviews

Essential Functions include the following:

  • Work collaboratively with technical and business team members to design, develop, and maintain leading edge solutions.
  • Design and develop applications with an eye towards simplicity, reliability, manageability, scalability, extensibility, and performance.
  • Work with open source and cutting-edge technologies such as Node.js, Python, MongoDB, Meteor, React, and Jenkins.
  • Participate in all phases of the development life cycle, focusing on coding, testing, and debugging.
  • Work on the maintenance or enhancement of existing data structures.
  • Formulate concepts and ideas for additional products, tools and services that can be provided in the digital space.
  • Set and adhere to software coding and style guides to ensure consistency.
  • Participate in pairing and code reviews

Technical and Non-Technical Competencies:

  • You appreciate brilliant design aesthetics.
  • You have experience working in a fast-paced, e-commerce environment.
  • You have an interest in photography and want to enable the production of awesome products in the photography industry.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of back end development experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • A good understanding of the Linux ecosystem and experience with server management.
  • Experience with automation tools like Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
  • Familiar with Amazon Web Services such as S3, Lambda, OpsWorks, and CloudFront.
  • Hands on experience with agile methodologies and test driven development
  • Testing experience with Mocha, Sinon, Chai, Selenium, etc.
  • Experience with consuming and designing RESTful Web Services.
  • Familiar with ES6, Redux, and Webpack.

Ideally:

Experience with React or a similar platform.
Experience investigating and improving JavaScript performance.
Experience in small start­up environments.
Experience designing web sites or applications.
Interested in Photography.
